Boko Haram Blows Up Bridge Linking Maiduguri With Damaturu And Biu

Gunmen suspected to be members of the
dreaded Boko Haram sect over the
weekend blew off the popular Madafuma
bridge linking 185km Biu-Damboa-
Maiduguri federal road, damaging a
remarkable portion of the bridge and
leaving motorists and passengers
stranded.
The road which has remained a death
trap for the past two years with
terrorists ambushing motorists and
passengers living hundreds dead with
the kidnapping of innocent civilians
have to be abandoned as most people of
Biu, Garkida, Numan, Shani, Taraba
resorted to traveling through Gombe
state which now took them up to 12 hours
instead of normal 3 or 5 hours Journey
to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
In less than 10 days ago, there was a
massive ambush on the road where the
terrorists sacked the 195 Battalion if
the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army,
after killing the Commanding Officer
along side a Divisional Police Officer and
over 15 soldiers and 6 policemen.
The bombing of the bridge according to
Mallam Musa Yakubu took place on
Saturday at about 2am when people were
asleep.
“We heard a loud bang on Saturday and
on Sunday morning when we gathered in
Madafuma village to go round our
surroundings early in the morning, we
found out that the bridge linking us with
Biu local Government Area and Ma Dara
Girau has been blown off, all motorists
heading to Maiduguri from Biu especially
long vehicles had no option than to
make u- turn back to Gombe,
unfortunately, small vehicles had to
manage the remaining thin portion
which has not been affected in the
blast, but it is very risky”. Yakubu
stated.
The north east part of Nigeria has been
experiencing attacks by Islamist sect
group Boko Haram, which says it wants
an Islamic state.
