Mexican Woman Gives Birth To Child On Hospital Lawn

Native Mexican Tribal
Woman from the Mazatec tribe forced to
give birth to a baby outside the hospital
which refused to help her.
A mother gave birth alone on a lawn at the
entrance to a hospital because the staff had
prohibited her access since she belonged
to one of the minority Native Mexican
Tribes . The mother, in full suffering, is
photographed by a passerby and the
picture is now circulating around the
world .
The controversy currently affecting Mexico
because of this photograph reopens the
debate on access to health care for ethnic
minorities. A vintage photograph published
in a daily La Razon caused scandal since its
publication.
The reactions have increased in solidarity
with the mother of 29 years , kicked out of
the medical center in the State of Oaxaca,
by a nurse as she was about to put her
child in the world.
While her poor husband tried to persuade
the nurse severity of the condition of his
wife, the young Irma Lopez stood a
hundred meters outside the hospital to
give birth to her third child. "I did not want
to give birth like that. It was so ugly and
extremely painful " , she told the
Associated Press after she was questioned
about this incident which became a
national issue .
Following this case, the Government of
Oaxaca , also announced the suspension of
the director, Adrian René Cruz Cabrera
(who is mestizo of spanish descent) of the
medical center and launched an
investigation within the institution in
question to find out who gave the order to
prohibit this modest torque of the northern
mountains of the state for care .
Silvia Flores, the mayor of the town where
then now-infamous medical center is
located, told the site Clarin that it was the
second time in a year that a woman in
labor has given birth on the lawn: in July,
another indigenous woman delivered a
baby on the same grass patch
The majority of Mexicans belong to the
mixed SPanish-Mestizo Latin descent who
discriminate against the Indigenous Tribals,
who are the original owners of the land,
before the arrival of the colonist settlers.
