Kjaer’s Own-Goal Halts Enyeama’s Record-Breaking Run.

Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama’s
run of 11 successive clean-sheets
came to an abrupt end after 1,062
minutes of not conceding a goal, due
to an own goal by a Lille teammate in
their 1-0 loss to Bordeaux on
Sunday.
Bordeuax’s Landry N’Guemo shot had hit
the post before Denmark international
defender Simon Kjaer deflected it into
his own goal, only for Enyeama to be
picking up the ball out of his net for the
first time since September 15, during a
2-0 loss to Nice.
The loss also brought to an end Lille’s
recent winning run- which included 1-
nill victories over Toulouse, Valenciennes
and Marseille- leaving them four points
behind Ligue One leaders Paris St-
Germain.

It means the 31-year-old ex-Enyimba
shot-stopper will no longer break
Bordeaux goalkeeper Gaetan Huard’s
overall French top flight record of 1,176
consecutive minutes without conceding a
goal during the 1992/93 season- just
115 minutes short.
He nonetheless remains comfortable with
his second all-time best feat, having
taken the penultimate spot in last
Tuesday’s win over Marseille and
extending that on Sunday.
He has featured for Lille in all league
games this season and has conceded just
three times against Stade de Reims, Nice
and Bordeaux.
