Blackberry Launches BBM For Windows Phone

BlackBerry has announced a
collaboration with Microsoft to bring
BBM™ to Windows Phone 8 and higher as
it continues its resurgence strategy.
“We are intent on bringing the most
popular application experiences to
Windows Phone, and with BBM, we are
pleased to bring many of its top features
to the Windows Phone platform,” said
Bryan Biniak, Vice President and
General Manager, Developer Experience,
Microsoft.
Biniak noted that the new offering will
bring users of the Windows Phone the
secure, easy-to-use messaging
experience they demand. New features
are expected to be rolled out in the
coming months.
John Sims, President Global Enterprise
Services at BlackBerry also said the
company was thrilled to be able to
expand the availability of BBM to the
Windows Phone community.
“The BBM app for Windows Phone shows
our commitment to supporting cross-
platform capabilities, and we are excited
to be working with Microsoft to deliver a
new level of collaboration to the Windows
Phone platform,” Sims added.
The decision to have BBM on the Windows
Phone is seen as a strategic move by
both Microsoft after acquiring Nokia at
$7.5 billion and putting a stop to
Android-powered smartphones, to
ensure Nokia users continue enjoy the
services they were enjoying before the
acquisition and more.
Building on the collaboration, privacy
and security features that are at the
core of the BBM experience, Windows
Phone users can now join more than 85
million monthly active users of the
messaging service around the world,
while still enjoying the Windows Phone
experience.

Menu 9 Year Old Schoolboy Remarries 62 Year Old Woman

A 9-year-old school boy has tied the
knot with his 62-year-old bride in
Ximhungwe, Mpumalanga, South
Africa, to the amazement of all.
The 9-year-old Saneie Masilela due to
‘family culture’, has decided to remarry
his bride, Helen Shabangu, who has
already had five children.
The dapper-looking baby faced ‘groom’
and his mature bride looked quite
extravagant as they were kissing each
other in a bid to show their love, to the
amazement of all the 100 guests present
at the event.
Both families have confirmed their
consent to the wedding, as the formal
husband of the bride and two of her
children, aged 28 and 38, have made it
publicly known. They are happy that the
couple are helping with the family ritual,
which is meant to appease the ancestors
of their family.
Revealing how they had all taken up the
financial responsibilities of the said
wedding, the formal husband says he is
unperturbed about what anyone says.
The baby groom still has the hopes of
remarrying a girl within his age range in
future. However, he says that he loves
his present bride as that was what made
him to take the bold step of marrying
Helen.
The bride, who expressed her happiness
over the fact that the boy picked her,
told the newsmen that the boy will
continue to live a normal life, as other
boys of his age, and will later get
married to a younger bride, within his
age limits. Helen added that they were
both just fulfilling family traditions.

Ogun PDP Berates Bankole For Dropping Jonathan, Mu’azu’s Names

Ahead of the
2015 general elections, the Forum of
Local Government Chairmen in Ogun
State chapter of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP), has cautioned aspirants
and their sponsors against name-
dropping.
The warning came on the heels of
reports that Chief Alani Bankole, the
father of former Speaker of the House
of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole,
stormed a recent meeting of the forum
and boasted that his son has been
assured the state PDP’s governorship
ticket by President Goodluck Jonathan
and Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, the
national chairman of the party.
In a statement yesterday by the
Chairman of PDP in Abeokuta South
Local Government and Chairman of the
Forum, Hon. Kehinde Sofenwa, the group
said: “The elder Bankole’s conduct is
unbecoming of an elder and a
democrat. We urge him and his son to
follow the due process and not seek to
usurp constituted authority.
“We know that the decision to drop the
name of the President and the national
chairman is one of the many lies that
the Bankoles are telling in order to
hoodwink unsuspecting members of the
party. But we remain undeterred and
urge our members across the state to
remain firm.
“We recall that some months back, they
were going about to say that the
President and the National Chairman
had assured them that the authentic
and legally constituted State Exco of our
party would be dissolved. But till date,
nothing of such has happened. Rather,
the party, under the leadership of our
able Chairman, Engr. Adebayo Dayo, is
waxing stronger.
“Much as we shudder to think if it is the
younger Bankole that is in the race or
the father, we wish to state without
mincing words that all these lies are
unfounded”.

‘Politicians Desperate For Power In 2015 Behind Boko Haram Insurgency’

The Director-
General of the Taskforce on Illegal
Importation of Small Arms and Light
Weapons, Chief Emmanuel Okereke, has
kicked against calls by some Nigerians
for President Goodluck Jonathan to visit
Chibok community in Borno State, saying
the entire episode smacks of “sabotage
and scam”.
In the wake of Boko Haram’s abduction
of over 200 schoolgirls from Government
Secondary School, Chibok, in April,
President Jonathan was berated for not
deeming it possible to visit the
community and commiserate with
distraught parents of the abducted
girls. A supposed visit in May was
reportedly cancelled after it was leaked
to the press as the president instead
chose to attend a summit on Boko Haram
in Paris, France.
Speaking after he was conferred with an
award in Abuja by the Southern Youths
For Peace Initiatives, Okereke, who was a
former presidential candidate of
African Liberation Party in the 2011
general elections, blamed the Boko
Haram on “desperate politicians
scheming for power in the 2015 general
elections”.
He recalled that the West African
Examination Council (WAEC) had earlier
advised the Borno State Government
against allowing students to sit for the
exams in Chibok owing to the inadequate
provision of security for its officials and
students alike.
“The wave of insurgency had soared and
the President came to save the country.
Yet, people are saying he should go to
Chibok. People say President Jonathan
should go to Chibok; for what? In a
country where there are governors and
Minister of Education? In fact, the
whole Chibok issue is a sabotage and
scam.
“Politicians who are desperate for power
in the 2015 general elections are the
people sponsoring Boko Haram. About 30
per cent of the country’s borders
remained unmanned by security agents”,
he said.

I’ve Returned Mandate Which Nyako Stole Back To PDP – Acting Governor

The Acting
Governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji
Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has visited the
national leadership of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, and declared
that he has returned the mandate from
recently removed governor of the state,
Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd).
He also pledged his unalloyed loyalty to
the national leadership of the party.
Fintiri, who spoke with journalists after
a closed-door meeting with the deputy
national chairman of PDP, Prince Uche
Secondus, at Legacy House, Abuja,
further declared that his swearing-in as
acting governor marked the restoration
of PDP to the people of Adamawa State.
He said, “As a loyal and obedient party
member, I came on a courtesy call to my
party and the National Working
Committee, NWC, as my first assignment
after the battle to remove Governor
Nyako who had stolen the mandate of
the PDP under which he was elected for
eight years”.
He continued, “I came here to bring back
the mandate and I have handed over to
them the mandate. I promise that I will
work together with the party, its
leadership, the people of Adamawa to
ensure that our party is restored to the
people”.
The PDP national leadership promised to
give the acting governor all the support
he needs, noting that Nyako’s
impeachment would cleanse the rot the
people of the state had experienced.
The National Publicity Secretary of PDP,
Chief Olisa Metuh, expressed confidence
that Fintiri would restore dignity to the
party and tackle “the rot and the
damage caused the party by former
governor Nyako”.

FG Begins Rehabilitation Of NNPC Depot In Enugu

The Federal
Government has commenced the
rehabilitation of pipelines from the NNPC
refinery in Port Harcourt to its depot in
Enugu, an official has said.
The Special Adviser to President
Goodluck Jonathan on Pipeline Matters
(South East), Linus Mgbakogu, disclosed
this in an interview in Enugu on Friday.
Mr. Mgbakogu said that the move to
rehabilitate the depot followed
government’s avowed commitment to
make petroleum products available to
Nigerians at the official price.
He said that work was in progress at the
pipeline locations in host communities,
adding that measures were in place to
check incessant vandalism.
“That is why we have involved the state
government in the onslaught against
vandals. We have also made it clear that
traditional rulers in host communities
have a major role to play in containing
their subjects,” he said.
Mr. Mgbakogu, who was the former
chairman of the Independent Petroleum
Marketers Association of Nigeria,
IPMAN, Enugu branch, decried the
continued closure of the depot due to
pipeline vandalism.
He said that the independent marketers
bore extra cost in lifting petroleum
products to the state.
“The continued closure of the depot is
affecting our business as we go the extra
mile to bring these products, yet sell at
the official price. This has always been
at a great loss to our members as we
most often lift products at higher rates
from other depots,” he said.
The presidential aide said that the
condition of marketers in the state was
made worse as most of the products they
bought were meant for other states.
“Most of the products are meant for
other states, but diverted to Enugu State
and this comes at higher prices. The
reason we still sell at the official price is
because there are products everywhere
at the moment,” he said.
Mr. Mgbakogu commended the
commitment of NNPC/PPMC in ensuring
that the depot was reactivated to serve
residents of the state.

Public Schools To Reopen In Borno After Ramadan

The Borno State Government has
announced that public schools in the
state will re-open after the
Ramadan fast.
It would be recalled that public schools
in the northeastern state of Nigeria were
shut on 14 March, 2014 following waves
of attacks by suspected Boko Haram
insurgents on schools in neighbouring
Yobe State.
Announcing the decision to reopen the
schools after the ongoing Muslims
fasting period, the Commissioner for
Education, Inuwa Kubo, said in
Maiduguri on Friday that government
had put in place machinery for the
reopening of the schools.
“Only schools located in safe environments
will be re-opened, while students whose
schools were located in unsafe
environment will be transferred to safer
areas,” he said.
* Governor Shettima of Borno State
“You will recall that public schools were
closed down in the wake of attacks on
schools by suspected insurgents in March.
You also recall that final year students
were left in the schools to write their
NECO/SSCE examinations.
“The situation led to mass transfer of final
year students from schools located in
different parts of the state to either the
capital or some few locations considered
safe. So, the few schools available were
made examination centres to accommodate
all the final year students,” Mr. Kubo
explained.
According to Premium Times, the
commissioner informed that the aborted
2014 NECO/SSCE in Borno state would
soon be concluded, adding that they are
making arrangement to re-open the
schools to other students after the
examination.
* Schoolgirls in Borno State
“The NECO/SSCE examinations will end in
a couple of days and we hope to re-open
the schools immediately so that the
students can complete their studies,” Mr.
Kubo said.
He said that since the state was still
faced with the Boko Haram insurgency,
only schools located in Maiduguri and
Biu headquarters of Biu Local
Government Council, would be re-
opened.
“We are going to move all the students to
schools in either Maiduguri or Biu which
are the only safe locations we have now.
This means that we have to adjust some
schools infrastructure to accommodate the
transferred students,” he said.
Commenting on when other schools would
be reopened, the commissioner said the
process might take a little time but
government would ensure that the
schools were re-opened in a short while.
“The re-opening of the schools will mean
that our students will remain in classes
while their counterparts in other states are
on vacation. This is because they have to
catch up with the classes they missed
while the schools were closed,” he said.
Kubo also commended the Federal
Government’s Safe School Initiative
which is aimed at providing security in
schools.
“We welcome the idea of Safe Schools
Initiative which is targeted at providing safe
environment in schools. In fact, the state
government is very keen at implementing
the programme.
“But I think that the best solution is to
tackle the insurgency head long which is
the cause of the insecurity in schools. We
are appealing to the Federal Government to
take concrete steps towards quashing the
problem by stepping up military campaign
against the Boko Haram insurgents for
peace to return,” he said.
The Boko Haram sect has claimed
responsibility for terror attacks that
have killed thousands of innocent lives
in Borno state and other states across
Nigeria.
No fewer than 200 schoolgirls were
kidnapped by members of Boko Haram
at the Government Girls Secondary
Schools in Chibok, Borno State on 14
April, 2014.
More than three months after the
incidents, the abducted girls are still in
captivity while the Nigerian federal
government led by President Goodluck
Jonathan has insisted that its not ready
to negotiate with the terrorists’ demand
for swap of the schoolgirls.

Se*y Singer Seyi Shay – ‘Why Tiwa Savage Is Not My Rival’

Sultry Nigerian singers Tiwa Savage and
Seyi Shay have for some reasons been
considered music rivals.
But in a recent chat with Punch, Seyi
Shay said:
“I think people can see the difference
between us now. The reason I don’t
see Tiwa as a rival is because I know
who I am. I know that I’m very much
a fun-loving person. I’m still the
woman of the world that many people
know. I really don’t care about the
things that are not going to affect me
in a positive way. If it’s not going to
affect me in a positive way, I don’t
focus on it or think about it.
“The difference is that I am deeper
into the ragga stuff than she is. She
portrays herself as somebody that is
a cautious RnB artist, which she is.
But I see myself as a commercial and
carefree spirit. I don’t know her to
that extent, so I can’t really speak
about her. But I feel that Murda is my
vibe and her vibe is her vibe.”
