A federal high court in Abuja, has granted the request of the federal
government seeking to extradite one Lawal Babafemi also known as
Abdullahi Ayatollah Mustapha.
Mr Lawal was indicted of conspiracy
to provide support to a foreign terrorist organization in violation of
title 18 of the United States code and the United States has requested
that he be extradited out of Nigeria to answer charges of terrorism
proffered against him.
Justice Ahmed Mohammed gave the order
after he confirmed from the suspect that he was not going to contest his
extradition to the United States of America.
In his ruling,
Justice Ahmed Mohammed said since the application was not contested by
the suspect, the court is satisfied with the request and application of
the attorney general of the federation as such, it orders that he be
extradited to the United States of America to face the indictment
against him by the U.S..
He also ordered that Mr Babafemi be
surrendered to officials of the United States of America not later than
fifteen days from when the order was made in line with the extradition
act 2004.
Justice Ahmed also ruled that Mr Babafemi should remain
in the custody of the department of state services until his
extradition.
The United States of America had on the 26 of July
2013 made a formal request to Nigeria seeking the extradition of Mr
Lawal Babafemi also known as Abdullahi Ayatollah Mustapha to answer
charges of providing support to terrorist organizations against the
United States of America.
