Glo Premier League Resumption Date Moved

The Nigeria Professional Football
League (NPFL) resumption, following
World Cup break, has understandably
been postponed after a meeting of
club managers in Abuja on Monday.
AfricanFootball.com reports that the Glo
Premier League resumption date may
now be shifted by a week following a
decision by club chiefs, who were in
Abuja on Monday night.
“The resumption of the league is to be
delayed because of the Federation Cup,”
said a top club official.

The Federation Cup round of 16 matches
will be played on Thursday across the
country with half of the NPFL teams in
action.
The change in resumption date also
implies that the Wednesday registration
deadline earlier announced will be
extended.
Reigning champions Kano Pillars lead
the standings with 34 points from 19
games, after the first round of matches.
Six of NPFL teams are drawn against one
another in the round of 16 of the
Federation Cup.
Holders Enyimba International FC will be
up against league strugglers Nembe City
in Akure while Nasarawa United and
another bottom-placed outfit Crown FC
battle it out in Aba.
The pair of former Cup winners,
Elkanemi Warriors and Dolphins are
pitted against each other for a place in
the quarter-finals of the oldest club
football tournament in the country.
That fixture comes up in Lafia.
2012 runners-up, Lobi Stars will line up
against lower league side, Plateau United
in Ilorin.
In Ilorin, Giwa FC will take on another
traditional side, Bendel Insurance.
Sharks FC, who eliminated Heartland in
the round of 32, will face another lower
league team Dynamite in Ado Ekiti while
Gateway FC will battle Bayelsa United at
the Fifa Goal Project in Abuja.
The only fourth round fixture featuring
a none-Premier League side involves two
teams from the same zone of the Nigeria
National League (NNL), First Bank and
Prime FC. The contest between two South
West teams takes place at the Samuel
Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.
