Kogi State
Governor, Cpt. Idris Wada (rtd) on
Tuesday denied that his frequent visits
to Abuja, the nation’s capital were for
holidays or jamboree, saying it was in
the interest of the state and Nigeria in
general.
The governor made this known in Lokoja,
the Kogi State capital in an interaction
with journalists as part of activities to
mark his second year anniversary in
office as governor.
According to him, “When the nation is
shaking and you stay at home, that is a
height of irresponsibility; because if
there is no Nigeria, there will be no Kogi
State. Some of us are basically
summoned at very short notice to appear
for certain duties”.
Wada said some of the recent crises,
including that of the ruling People’s
Democratic Party (PDP), required the
meeting of governors to brainstorm and
fashion out ways of resolving them in
order to move the nation forward.
“You know, in the last eight months we
have had issues in the PDP which is the
ruling party. Anything that affects the
PDP affects Nigeria as a nation. That is
why it is important to pay attention to
party issues. I would not be here if I was
not on the platform of the PDP.
Therefore, if PDP has a problem I must
show interest and work towards getting a
solution to that problem”, the governor
said.
He added that another reason why
governors throng the nation’s capital
frequently is to lobby federal agencies to
execute projects in their states, adding
that Kogi in particular, has a lot of
ongoing federal government projects.
As a result, Gov. Wada stressed that it
was important for him to interact with
the ministers and heads of federal
government agencies to ensure that the
projects were implemented
uninterruptedly.
